How to use Present Simple

Do we use Present Simple to talk about the life today only?

How to make affirmative sentences in Present Simple

Present Simple is the present tense, which is formed when the particle “to” is removed from a verb: to sing – sing, to play – play.

For example:

I sing a song.

If the action is performed by he or she, that is, the 3rd person singular, the ending -s is added.

For example:

He plays the guitar.

How to make questions in Present Simple

What happens to interrogatives and negatives? Everything is very simple. In an interrogative sentence, “do” or “does” is placed before the verb. “Do” is used almost always. And “does” is put only when there is a 3rd person singular in the question.

For example:

Do you sing? Does he play the guitar?

How to make negative sentences in Present Simple

Negative words are also almost always marked with “do not”. And only when we are talking about the 3rd person singular, “does not” is put.

For example:

I don’t sing. He does not play the guitar.

As a last resort, if you urgently need to explain yourself to someone, you can get by with a verb, a noun and intonation instead of grammar. If you say “play the guitar” with an upward intonation, it will be a question. And if with an emphasis on “play” – then a command.
